Research Co-ordinator's Report, March 2007
The last year has been a very busy one for
us at BPFMR and we have seen a large amount of samples through
the lab. At the Peterlee show, 46 samples were taken, which
is a new record and it seems that interest in our work is
always on the increase - a really positive sign. Blackpool
2007 was also busy for us with 346 samples being taken. We
were very fortunate to see many new faces on the research
team working on new tests and techniques. The results for
Blackpool will be produced shortly.
I would like to say a huge thanks to Richard
Sanderson and his colleagues at pigeon
basics who raised over £1000 for the research. The whole
team is most grateful to them for their continuing good work. The photo shows Richard Sanderson presenting the cheque to Dr Lynch at the Blackpool show in January 2007.
As many of you know, we are happy to receive
samples during the year, and many people make use of this
service from abroad. If you have any questions about this
service, please look at the contact
page
Over the last year we have noticed increasing
difficulty with getting GPs to send blood samples to us directly.
We are currently working on improving the system which might
involve us producing standard packs that can be sent to GPs
to make the process easier. In the meantime, if you have any
difficulty getting your GP to take a blood sample for us,
please contact me and I will happily phone your surgery and
speak to them about it.
A few months ago we changed the contact phone
number - this news seems to have filtered its way to most
people. If you know anyone who is having difficulty contacting
us, please make sure they are using the new phone number which
is 07855 387474.
We have changed the system for sending samples
to us for testing during the year. We are now able to accept
samples straight to the lab and therefore, we would be grateful
if you could now send samples to us at:

The website continues to be a huge success
and now has over 67000 hits. I am always glad to receive comments
and pointers on the website. At the moment we are doing a
large scale update which will include more information on
the recent research activities. If you have any other things
you would like to see on the site, please get in touch. Also,
if you have written any articles that you would like included
on our articles page - please forward these on and we will
consider them for inclusion.
Thank you for all your comments and feedback.
If you need any advice or help, please do not hesitate to
call or email.

Ken Boyd,
